Evolution Sails in Mystic, CT has announced that Kyle Fast of Noank, CT has joined the loft as a sailmaker. Fast learned to sail at Ram Island Yacht Club in Noank and was part of the club’s junior program for nine years. At age 14, he won the Blue Jay Nationals and the overall 420 class at Larchmont Junior Race Week in 2002. An International Lightning Class Boat Grant recipient, he competed in the Atlantic Coast Championship and North Americans and also has extensive experience in Watch Hill 15s, Fishers Island One Designs, Hobie Cats, Etchells, Melges 32s, Farr 30s and J Boats.
Fast has raced in the Buzzards Bay Regatta (505), the Mudhead Overnight (Santana 30) and Off Soundings (Tripp 36), and the Island Cup. In 2005, he began sailing a J/24 in the Mystic River Mudhead Sailing Association’s Wednesday Night series and has done very well in his class. In 2009, he skippered his J/24 Alohomora at Block Island Race Week and tied for first in class.
Fast has worked as a sailing counselor at Orient Yacht Club in Orient, NY and a sailing instructor at Groton Long Point Yacht Club in Groton, CT and the Stonington Harbor Yacht Club Sailing Foundation in Stonington, CT. He graduated from Connecticut College in 2010 with a BA in Chemistry and was a member of the school’s varsity sailing team.
